August 13. is an anniversary
of the Wall construction

  The building of the Berlin Wall began on August 13th,1961 at 12 o'clock a.m. The East German National Volks Army and the Border guards were sent around West-Berlin, and blockaded the border with barbed wire. This blockade was finished on the same day and they began to construct the Wall with concrete blocks. The Wall was constructed using many types of barriers and alarms. On this page I will show you some pictures taken on August 13th, 1987, during the 26th anniversary of the construction. I was staying in Berlin at that time.

Protest #1 This gentleman protests against the Wall on the 13. August every year at the Checkpoint Charlie. He hands out small blcak flagsf as a symbol of tragedy.
Protest #2 Somebody set a black flag on the sign in front of the Brandenburg Gate.
Protest #3 This gentleman(right) also hands out leaflets beside the Checkpoint Charlie.
Protest #4 This is the leaflet, "Echo of the capitol". It says "since 26 years there has been the Wall and the shoot-order has been called. How long do they remain?".
Protest #5 Young guys fly balloons in front of the Brandenburg Gate with messages calling for tearing down of the Wall.
Protest #6 This poster says that the German problem is not resolved if the Brandenburg Gate remains closed.
Watch East German guards watch and movements of protesting in the western side.
Patrol Police of West-Berlin is patroling, because some kind of protest actions against the Wall might happen near the Checkpoint Charlie.
Media TV broadcasting car can be seen at the Potsdam Square.
Tourists Beyond the Brandenburg Gate there are many tourists, which can be normaly seen on one of summer days.
Meeting A meeting of a political group against the Wall was held beside the "Reichstag", the National Congress Hall.
Fire Midnight on the 13. August 1987, somebody set fire on the Wall at the Brandenburg Gate, which was quickly put out by the East Germans guards and repaired as soon as possible. (taken on the following day)
