A Japanese man took photos shortly after the Wall was constructed.
Mr. Yasumasa Tsukamoto, working in West Germany, visited West Berlin October 1961, 2 months after East Germany began to build the Wall and shot the following three pictures.

All the windows of the apartmenthouses were blocked up with bricks and stones, because they stood just on the borderline and many of the residents tried to escape through those windows into the western side. |

Some people tried to jump into the western sector from the upper floor of the flats. Citizens in West Berlin were waiting on the street for those people with jumpingsheet spread. Unluckily sometimes they fell on the ground to death. For these people monuments were constructed in West Berlin. |

This is the first generation of the segment that was built a few days after the blockade began. |
